Lumiere Brothers: the lumber brothers are well know video editors. one of the brothers developed the "dry plate" process, it became known as the "etiquette blue". The brothers then invented a device combining a camera and a printer to create the cinematographe. it was also hand cranked. The Edison Co: The first peep hole motion picture machine. The kinetograph and kinetoscope were apple to play simple films throughout a peep hole. the device was initially in penny arcades where a user could watch a short from for a penny through a peep hole. Edward S Porter: Edward S Porter created a one reel film called the great train robbery. This was the first film of it's time using multiple locations at the same time using cutting. there was also a range of shots like a bandit shooting at the camera. He used cross cutting ti show simultaneous events in different locations. no film before this had ever used this. Kuleshov Experiment: Kuleshov made a short film condition of an emotionless face, but in-between the clips of the expressionless face there were happy and sad clips. Each time after the clip the face seemed different to the audience, even know the face was exacty the same each time. this became known as the Kuleshov Effect. VHS Video Home System The VHS was a video tape that could record your tv and then could be watched back. This revolutionised tv as people could record programs they would otherwise miss. VHS gave the tv industry a huge boost and films and tv shows were sold on them. DVD digital versatile disc A dvd is a optical dis the can store any video or file. DVD's offer a higher storage capacity than compact disks and VHS, while being the same size or smaller. Pre recorded dvd's are a big business and are mass produced for consumers. The dvd can be overwritten copied and erased many times. George Melies: was the film marker to start using effects in his fins. He invented the fade effect for transitions and he also invented multiple exposure. He made a film called a trip to the moon where he used especial effects like time lapse fade transitions and multiple exposure. Grifhth (180Degree Rule): In film making the 180 degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the relationship of the camera and the people on the screen. The rule basically states that the camera should always be on 180 degrees of the first camera angle is this line is crossed the position of the people on screen moves and they swap sides this does not make sense so it is avoided. Non-Linear Editing: a non- linear editing system is a system that can edit the video but without modifying the original film making it useable in the future to start again or keep. This is like mordent programs where the initial video is copied into editing programs. Montage: A mantage in video editing is a bunch of clips put together to create a sequence of events, or a group of videos all related in some way. Montages are usually used to present top clips of funny moments in filming or best bits.
