Ian Wolfson: Ian Wolfson from Rex Arrow Films is an independent filmmaker well known from his videos he created for the independent Rap artist Mac Miller. He is an american filmmaker who has made many videos for multiple artists including: Nelly, Bun B and Freeway. He has also created a feature film and is attempting another. Ian Wolfson has directed and edited many videos by Mac Miller. One of the videos he directed is "Donald Trump". This is by far Mac Miller's and Ian Wolfson's most popular creation. The video is all performance based with lots of different clips from different locations. The editor Ian Wolfson has used cutting to the beat and a range of camera angles. For example there are Extreme Close Up's, Mid shots, Closeups, long shots and tilt shots. The majority of the shots are mid shots, from multiple different locations. The Tilt shots follow with the beat starting a new tilt on each beat. This video is simular to another of Ian Wolfson's Creations "Loud". This video uses a range of camera angles, but singularly uses mainly midshots. This video follows a different style though. it is more of a surreal video. Following the theme of the song "Being High" the video has lots of bright colors and a dark background, making it like a dream like state. Simular to Ian Wolfson's creation Loud, Jonah Hill's video "Gonna Get Over You" is in a dream like state. The video is about the singer dreaming while in a store that she can sing really well and is performing for a video in her dream. This video also uses a lot of mid shots but the camera moves about a lot more. The video also uses a lot of tracking shots as the video is lively because of the tempo of the song. This links back to another of Ian Wolfson's videos "Smile Back" By Mac Miller. In this video there is alot of tracking shots due to the narrative of the video ( Mac Running ). This video uses a lot of camera movement as Mac is running for most of the video. The story shows Multiple tenses past and present. The video also has performance based clips in the same locations as the narrative parts. A common theme of "Drugs" is reoccurring between lots of Ian Wolfson's videos. This fits the genre of the music as a convention of Hip-Hop videos is "Drugs". Ian has only recently started making music videos, and it seems that he has only made videos for one artist being Mac Miller. All the videos he has made fit into the Hip-Hop Genre and are represented in the same way as each other. He has previously done film work but not in the music video business or field. all of the videos he creates negatively represent the hip-hop genre by making mac miller seem like the stereotype of a rap artist, taking drugs, drinking and being with a lot of women. He does this by having drugs and alcohol as props and having lots of women in the videos. He also does this by adding effects to the videos giving the impression of being high. He does this by adding bright lights and wobbly cameras. He also uses some high angle shots of the artist when he is on drugs showing he is venerable and maybe trying to show they are bad, but this is unlikely as the video is in the hip-hop genre.
