Ian Wolfson Producers must consider some rules that they must follow when creating music videos.
Location Permission: It is a legal requirement for anyone to have permission to film in the location they are planning to film in. Unless it is a public place, then the producer does not always need permission. The producer must just ask the owner of the land they are filming on if they are allowed. A music video producer would need to make sure to get location permissions on all locations he is planning to film in, Before he films in them. He must keep a record of the permission incase a dispute if opened. BECTU: Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematography and Theater Union The BECTU is the UK's media and entertainment union; They cover : Broadcasting Film, Independent productions, Theatre and live arts, Live Events, Leisure and Digital Media. The union provides health and safety along with gender and race equality. A music video producer would need to make sure that the video he is planning to produce is not offensive and could make the BECTU step in. BBFC: British Board of Film Classification The British Board of Film Classification is an independent, non-governmental body which has classified cinema films since it was set up. It also classifies DVD's and Digital Films. They classify all films to give them a age rating for appropriate audiences. For example if there is excessive swearing they they will class the film appropriately, as they cannot allow children to watch this film. The BBFC is a not profit organisation. A music video producer would need to submit his music video to the BBFC to allow them to rate the video for appropriate audiences. MCPS: Mechanical Copyright Protection System The MCPS is a system that collects royalties for copyrighted songs when they are used in public places. They work out how many times a song has been played and creates an invoice the company must pay. Then that money goes to the artist who owns the song. A music video producer would need to submit the video to the MCPS to allow them to collect royalties for the video effects. Whenever the video is paid a portion of the money earned would go to the music video producer.
